e49 promotes free speech worldwide

The International Center for Journalists has the Bivings Group and episode49 make substantial changes in how their web site works.

"We are pleased to play a critical role in bringing the first amendment free speech, which we Americans take for granted, to the rest of the world," said Ken Smith, managing partner and chief strategist for episode49, "we realized that only a web site could possibly make this happen worldwide."

The International Journalists' Network (IJNet) serves a vital function in advancing the cause of journalism throughout the world. Central to its mission is a dynamic, interactive website that can effectively serve both journalists in developing or transitioning countries and media assistance organizations. The goal of its Web presence is to complement media assistance efforts with online member interaction for a global, interactive network to further promote journalism everywhere.

"We did extensive digital planning with the client in conjunction with the Bivings Group to assure the quickest, highest performing delivery of information," said Smith, "By utilizing the power of Microsoft SQL within the .NET development framework, we were able to produce the performance the client wanted."

Early responses to the launch came in the form of comments from around the world: Nepal, Cameroon, Vietnam and Thailand.

"This website is truly remarkable and is a one stop resource for journalists to keep themselves abreast of latest developments in journalism education and training. I hope the new outlook of the website will attract more people towards it," said Hamad Kiani, "Congratulations! A great job indeed."

"A large part of what makes this site successful was our accommodation of client details that came to us as the project evolved," said Branden Schwartz, lead developer on this project, "Our client understanding and consistent development practices enabled us to capture and quickly integrate changes. It's a big part of how we handle our client relationship."

IJNET.org has a vast amount of news content, presented in multiple languages. The content management solution allows IJNET.org staff to enter new articles and alter existing pages easily, without further intervention from episode49. episode49 also added new interactive tools so that site visitors can now interact with the IJNet staff and their fellow journalists.

The design and overall direction of the site modifications were done by the Bivings Group, with episode49 providing the underlying development for the site. The Bivings Group focuses on strategically deploying Internet technology as a sophisticated communications tool for corporations, trade associations, governmental agencies, and not-for-profit institutions throughout the world. Their website is www.bivings.com.

"The magic of the Internet lies not in the technology, but rather in its strategic use," said F. Gary Bivings, President of The Bivings Group.
